Unlike the modern Skate Deck, the earlier versions of the skates were constructed using steel with sharp bottoms in order to reduce the friction. However, the next model of skateboard decks was constructed in a way that it largely resembled the modern one. Earlier, except in Netherlands, the sport was considered as a monopoly of the upper classes. Many emperors relished the sport and Emperor Rudolf II of Holy Roman Empire organized a large carnival to publicize the game.
It is supposed that the roller skating was first introduced in 1743 in London during a stage performance by an unknown inventor. The earliest recorded inline skate demonstrator in 1760 was John-Joseph Merlin. The first skate patent was obtained by M. Petit Bled of France in the year 1819. From there on, the designs of the skateboards evaluated and gradually improved. The 19th century witnessed the growth and development of the various models of skates, and this was the period, when evolution in the skateboard designs came into being.
